Thursday, 27 February 2014

Goodman Group (Goodman or Group), the global integrated property group which owns, develops and manages industrial space, is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement to lease 54,880 sqm to Zhejiang Cainiao Networks (Cainiao) at Goodman Suzhou West Logistics Centre (GSWLC). Cainiao plans to establish an East China Regional Distribution Centre for Tmall.com (Alibaba) from its new premises at GSWLC.

Cainiao’s core business is to facilitate the logistics network of Tmall.com, its largest shareholder. Tmall.com is part of the Alibaba Group and is a leading Chinese-language website for business to consumer (B2C) online retailers. Tmall.com’s e-commerce platform enables local Chinese and international businesses to sell quality, brand name goods to consumers in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Philip Pearce, Managing Director Greater China for Goodman, said, “This is a significant leasing transaction and we are very pleased to welcome Cainiao to our portfolio. Following the completion of the warehouse development in November 2013, we are happy to announce that we have successfully leased 100% of Goodman Suzhou West Logistics Centre, demonstrating the high quality of our product and service offering.”

Goodman acquired GSWLC in June 2012 as a strategic development opportunity to further expand its offering along the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway and achieve greater economies of scale from the Group’s existing properties at Kunshan. The Group has since retrofitted the original 58,000 sqm facility and developed four additional warehouses, to provide a total of  94,100 sqm of prime logistics space. Cainiao will occupy a total of 54,880 sqm over three warehouses, comprising a mix of new and retrofitted logistics space.

“We continue to see strong demand for e-fulfilment in China in line with the exceptional growth of the e-retailing sector. As one of the leading global industrial property groups, with a rapidly expanding business in China and world-class expertise in meeting the unique requirements of e-retailing and logistics customers, Goodman is in a very strong position to meet the growing demand from these sectors and the broader market,” Mr Pearce added.

Goodman currently has 570,000 sqm of high quality logistics space being developed across a number of projects in key cities including Shanghai, Tianjin, Hefei, Changzhou,

Nanjin, Chongqing and Chengdu. It has a land bank in excess of 4 million sqm, ensuring the Group is also well positioned to meet future market demand.

Goodman has undertaken a number of developments in the e-retailing sector globally, making e-retailers one of its largest customer groups. Its global customers in this sector include Amazon, Zalando and Grays Online, while in Greater China, its clients include Net-a-Porter, Bestseller , VIPshop.com and Jumei.com.
