Automotive customer story: BMW Brilliance Automotive

BMW Brilliance Automotive Limited is a joint venture between BMW and Brilliance Automotive (BBA). Its principal activities are the production, distribution, sale and after-sales service of BMW passenger cars in mainland China.

BMW has entered the Goodman Citylink. Located in Yanjiao Economic and Technological Development Zone, Langfang in Hebei Province, Goodman Citylink is in close proximity to the 6th Ring Road, which links to downtown Beijing. Goodman Citylink comprises an existing 26,500 sqm warehouse, with a long-term lease to a multinational retailer and a further five high quality, single-storey prime warehouses.

"The excellent location and quality of Goodman Citylink will enable us to respond swiftly to our clients’ demands, and shorten the distribution and delivery time for auto parts in the region" - Michael Clark, Senior Manager – Parts Logistics, BMW Brilliance Automotive.

With three existing facilities across Beijing, BMW Brilliance Automotive needed to consolidate operations into one regional distribution hub for Northern China.

BBA’s key requirements for the new facility included:

  • Three level mezzanine racking system to cope with the increasing storage requirement of parts;
  • Extra large dock levellers (2,000mm x 4,500mm)

BBA experienced strong growth in 2014, requiring a further 12,270 sqm of new space to be added to the initial 33,000 sqm pre-commitment it signed in October 2013. The new built-to-suit facility has a total gross floor area of 45,500 sqm.

Goodman Citylink in Langfang suited BBA’s requirements, due to its size and strategic location near Beijing’s 6th Ring Road. Goodman worked collaboratively with BBA from the concept design phase through to completion, taking into account specific technical requirements including the unique mezzanine racking system and extra large dock levellers. Sustainability requirements were met with use of an infrared heating system, recycling heating for ventilation of office space and use of energy efficient lighting.

Goodman successfully completed the tailor made 45,500 sqm facility for BMW Brilliance Automotive at Goodman Citylink on time and to budget. By consolidating three separate facilities into one, BMW Brilliance Automotive will lower operational costs, in turn enhancing their competitiveness in the mainland China market
